TIM MURRAY
Managing Director
Master Instructor
Tim is the owner of Breakaway and brings a deep playing background along with a highly technical understanding of skating mechanics to Calgary’s hockey community.
Tim’s hockey journey began with the Calgary Royals U18 AAA program, where he earned the AMHL Warwick Memorial Trophy in 1991–92. He went on to play for the Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL), where he was named an all-star.
From 1993 to 1997, Tim played NCAA Division I hockey at the University of New Hampshire, serving as team captain in his senior year. During his collegiate career, he earned several major honors, including:

Following college, Tim played professionally in the IHL, AHL, and British Ice Hockey Superleague. He competed for organizations including the Detroit Vipers, Rochester Americans, Adirondack Red Wings, Portland Pirates, and London Knights. He won the Turner Cup with the Vipers and later captured a BISL Playoff Championship to conclude his professional career.
Today, Tim oversees Breakaway’s programming and overall direction. His leadership and experience continue to shape the organization’s standards and development philosophy. He remains actively involved on the ice, dedicating most of his time to working with private clients and small groups of elite players.
COLIN WEBSTER
Director Player Development
Master Instructor
Colin played Junior hockey in PEI and graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). He is Lead Instructor at Breakaway, bringing 17 years of dedicated experience to player development since 2009. He has continued to shape Breakaway's high-performance on-ice curriculum and development philosophy through his program, Boondock Hockey, in which he is founder and lead instructor.
Colin's extensive coaching experience spans the globe, having led and organized camps across Canada, including PEI, NB, NS, NFLD & LB, Nunavut, and Alberta, as well as in Switzerland. He has successfully coached players ranging from U5 to the Professional level, hailing from over 18 countries.
SVEND WIELE
Master Instructor
Svend is one of our senior on-ice instructors at Breakaway. He is a highly accomplished skill development specialist and coach with over 20 years of experience in hockey.
Svend currently serves as the MRU women's skills coach and the NWCAA U17/U18 AAA skills coach. He has extensive experience as a personal and performance coach for professional teams and players, including those from the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Women's Team Canada, the WHL, and many more. His international experience includes working with the German national team at the U16 through U20 levels, and he has coaching ties to the DEL's Munich Barons.
ADRIAN FOSTER
Master Instructor
A retired, Calgary-developed professional hockey player who has had a successful 13-year career. Adrian Foster was drafted in the first round of the 2001 NHL entry draft by the New Jersey Devils, and went on to play for several other NHL organizations in the minor leagues as well. Following his playing stint in North America, he played for professional teams in the top leagues in Austria, Germany, Russia, and Sweden.
Adrian’s expertise in hockey and experience working with kids has ignited a passion for developing youth hockey players. He has over 15 years experience in youth hockey development and is a nationally certified coach. He is especially effective in breaking down and explaining the mechanics of hockey skills and creating customized skill development sessions. His enthusiasm, creativity, and credibility has resulted in a unique ability to connect with hockey players of all ages and abilities.
CONNOR RANKIN
Master Instructor
Connor played a successful five years in the WHL with the Tri City Americans and the Calgary Hitmen. Connor won the Humanitarian of the Year in 2015 in the WHL playing for the Calgary Hitmen for his commitment to the community and minor hockey. Rankin also went to the Pittsburgh Penguins camp in 2013 and Edmonton Oilers camp in 2015, making it all the way through pre-season action. Rankin left pro hockey to pursue academic and on ice success with the Mount Royal Cougars. Rankin going on to win the scoring title for Canada West in 2017. Rankin also won the Sportsmanship and Ability Award in 2019 for U-Sports Men's Ice Hockey. For three consecutive years, Rankin hosted his own hockey development camp in the hockey state of Minnesota. He brings his knowledge gained from these established camps along with his to-date employment working for the Calgary Flames assisting in their in-game video analytics. Graduated in 2020 from Mount Royal University with an Accounting degree. In that same year, Rankin won the Brian Felmming Award for MRU's male graduating player of the year. A 3X Academic All-Canadian, Male Athlete of the Year, and a passionate hockey player.
BEN LEHMANN
Head Instructor
Ben Lehmann is an on ice instructor with an elite-level playing background, including captaining multiple championship-winning teams. He played over 100 games across four Junior B seasons, during which he was named League Champion, Provincial Bronze Medalist, and Rookie of the Year. In his coaching career, Ben has led back-to-back Esso Minor Hockey Week Champions and Division Champions, noting a record-setting team performance. He has been named the Head Coach for the U13AAA Wranglers for the upcoming 2026/2027 season. Ben holds Hockey Canada Coaching Level 1 & 2 and Checking Skills certifications, and he is currently working toward his Development 1 certification as part of the NCCP pathway. He is also completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance at the University of Calgary, with expected completion in 2027.
KEVIN MacLELLAN
Head Instructor
Kevin MacLellan is a high school Physical Education and Sports Medicine teacher at All Saints High School. He currently calls Calgary home, where he lives with his wife, Tegan, and two daughters, Scarlett and Emmy.
Kevin grew up on Prince Edward Island, where he finished his junior career before moving on to play four years of NCAA College hockey at Potsdam State University. He has been involved with Breakaway over the last year and looks forward to opportunities to work with all groups and teams
