Welcome to Breakaway's U7 Rookie Series — a comprehensive hockey development program designed to provide young players with the ideal first step in their hockey journey. Replace your U7 Association Registration with our full U7 package.  Save on extra power skating and development - we have it built into our Rookie Series.

Led by Coach Colin Webster and the Breakaway coaching staff, this full-package program includes three on-ice sessions each week:
 

• Skating Development Session

• Pucks & Skills Session

• Games Session

Each session is designed to build confidence, develop fundamental skills, and create a positive learning environment where young players can thrive. 

Over the years, we have seen a growing need for a well-rounded U7 program that combines quality coaching, consistent development, and a schedule that works for families. The U7 Rookie Series has been built to deliver exactly that. Our experienced Breakaway staff will lead every session, ensuring players receive professional instruction and meaningful ice time throughout the season.

 

Our commitment to development extends beyond practices and into every game session. Lead Coach Colin will be on the ice, teaching key concepts, helping players better understand the game in real time, and providing encouragement. This hands-on approach creates more learning opportunities, builds confidence, and helps young players develop both their skills and their understanding of the game.

With flexible payment options through the fall and winter seasons, players will receive a minimum of 60 on-ice sessions during the 2026-2027 season.

We are also committed to maintaining strong coach-to-player ratios and fewer players on the ice per session, creating more opportunities for instruction, puck touches, and individual development. We will have a maximum amount of 24 players on the ice during our Skating and Pucks sessions. Games days will have a maximum of 30 skaters - 3 lines per team.

PRE-REQUISITE REQUIRED

This is not a learn to skate program - players need to be capable of skating independently. See below for more information:

-Skate the length of the ice without falling regularly
-Demonstrate basic stride skating (push and glide using both feet, not stepping or walking with one foot consistently planted)
-Turn and change direction while maintaining balance
-Follow basic instructions from coaches in a group setting
-Participate in a full ice session as part of a group without requiring one-on-one coaching
